One of the big news items this week is that Obama threw an extravagant Halloween party at the White House in 2009, complete with decorations by Hollywood director Tim Burton and an appearance by Johnny Depp in full Mad Hatter gear. I largely sympathize with the anger displayed by the “Occupy Wall Street” protests. Most of the financial woes we face can be traced back to reckless gambling on Wall Street. There is a looming crisis in federal spending that has been conveniently ignored by the mainstream media. Federal retirement benefits have soared for civil servants and military personnel, but the government has not put a single dollar in reserve to pay for the benefits!
